Jada Toys, Inc. is a manufacturer of die-cast and radio controlled toys based in City of Industry, California. The company was founded in 1999 by Jack and May Li. Jada’s brands include DUB City, Big Time Muscle, D-Rods, Option D!, High Profile, Chub City and Showroom Floor. The makers of Jada Toys work with top auto manufacturers and aftermarket manufacturers to produce some of the hottest and most accurate die-cast models in the automotive world. Jada Toys are crafted with high-quality die-cast metal, and they have realistic paint schemes and accessories, as well as officially licensed custom wheels. Jada Toys was recently granted the exclusive license to market models of the 2009 Corvette ZR1.
While Jada’s primary focus is on muscle cars, hot rods, and import tuners, they have created several lines of trucks. Jada Toys produced the Hot Rigz line of die-cast tractor trailer trucks from 2001 to 2004, based on Peterbilt tractors. Currently, Jada’s premier truck line is Road Rigz, available in 1:32 and 1:64 scales. The majority of the tractor-trailer sets available are branded with the logos and coloring of major companies, such as Quaker State or Pepsi Cola.
Another of Jada’s truck lines is the High Profile line, which consists of models of modified street trucks, including pickup trucks and SUVs. According to the Jada Toys web site, “The high-end large rim look of DUB City meets off-road suspension and tires in the High Profile product line. This line shows it’s not just enough to be able to go off-road, it’s also how you look while doing it.” The High Profile line is available in 1:24 and 1:64 scales.
Jada Toys initiated a lawsuit against Mattel in 2004 for copyright infringement of Jada’s Old Skool trademark. The Old Skool line contained some of the Hot Rigz truck models. Mattel had been marketing their Old School and New School lines of vehicles. In 2005, summary judgments were granted, but these were overturned in 2008.
Jada Toys has branched out from its die-cast vehicle roots to develop a diverse line of products. Jada has developed a line of vinyl figures as part of their Chub City vehicle line. The company also markets a series of radio controlled vehicles. Jada Toys has partnered with Activision to produce an electronic air guitar device under the Guitar Hero brand. Air Guitar Rocker debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2008.
